Type:  Brown Dragon
Breath weapon:   Mood-Affecting Smoke
Habitat:   Naturally in dense woodlands and rocky wastes, commonly found in unpopulated areas near human lands
Diet:   Omnivore, try to eat overpopulated species
Preferred Treasure:   Balance and Peace

"I went to go give the formal declaration of war to Count Merek, but as I approached the Lord and his council I found I just could not bring myself to do it. In that moment I thought of all the blood and horror that would come from it, and I… I thought nothing of the smoke until I had left the place and I saw the damn dragon on the keep. The man is a manipulator and a coward for doing this, I advise we march on him immediately. If he was trying to dissuade me from bringing the declaration, let him work it out for himself." -Chancellor Rayne speaking to Count Brom of North Drumming Sun, shortly before marching on and easily defeating the armies of Count Merek

Brown Dragons think themselves the guardians of Peace and Balance in the world, a brood of self-righteous and egotistical creatures who want to do the world a service by watching over it. They consider the balance and harmony of the world to be their kinds treasure, though what balance they decide changes from dragon to dragon. Some focus on the balance of natural and manmade in the world, while others take great interest in the specific boundaries of certain human lands. In particular their belief that their understanding of what is right and wrong is so much greater than that of humans has led them to intervene in both wars and diplomatic relations. While in some areas this has led to a good relationship with humans in more cases the dragons have simply earned the irritation of both humans and other dragon broods. When wars do break out they tend to either stay out of the fighting entirely or placate the armies with their breath. While their influence has forced the end to many a bloody war, their desire for balance and peace has often caused civilisations to go into complete decline.

The breath of the brown dragons produces a light smoke that when breathed in induces changes in mood, with the smoke changing colour to reflect what its effect would be. The Brown Dragons usually use this to induce a state of serenity into humans in order to calm the build up to war, but other emotions have proven to be useful for other purposes. If a human lord had ordered the harvesting of large swathes of forest, for example, a dragon might induce a state of severe paranoia or fear in the workers to get them to flee from the forest. In many cities Brown Dragons are welcome into the courts of Lords because of the usefulness of its breath in calming subjects. The dragons are often so arrogant and pleased with themselves for being seem as 'necessary' in the human lands that they rarely recognise that they are being used as a peaceful way of subjugation, or in many cases an easy way to get high. Indeed in many places over the world there are 'distilleries' devoted to bottling the various breaths of Brown Dragons under the guise of scientific research or good purposes, hiding from the dragons their complicity  in advanced drug dealing.

Brown Dragons are naturally named for their brown scales, varying in shade and tone. These were originally used in order to provide an ineffective camouflage, either against the sand, rocks or dense woodlands. Their size fluctuates massively from dragon to dragon, and while the larger are stronger and have more effective breath, the smaller are simply harder to find and are often preferred in the courts of humans for the sake of sheer practicality. Brown Dragons will feed on just about anything, though in the following of their idea of 'balance' will usually only eat things that are overpopulated or overgrown or threatening the population of other creatures. If they cannot find such things, they will often move away to a different area altogether. It has been found that a number of Brown dragons have died just from their inability to bring themselves to upset the balance of certain populations.
